At Nexus Pain Management a referral is preferred but not required. Having extra clinical information from your health providers helps us to better triage and plan for your appointment and can help provide guidance for you on what is to be expected on the day.
Allied health professionals such as physiotherapists, chiropractors, osteopaths, occupational therapists, myofascial therapists etc can also refer directly to us rather than requiring you to go via your GP.
If you are unable to get a referral you are still welcome to book an appointment. We do have a pre-appointment questionnaire to complete prior to your appointment which will help with this.

There are over 200 of carparks in the Fairfax Village centre shared with the businesses in the complex. There is carparking both upstairs and downstairs. It can get full in the centre car park between 9am-5pm so allow some extra time.
There is also surrounding street parking and within the Coles complex on the other side of Fairfax St.
If you are having a lot of trouble finding a park or running very late but have a driver, they can drop you near the elevator downstairs and then go to find a park in the surrounding area while you come up for your appointment.

The default initial consultation time is 60 minutes.
During this time your doctor will perform an extensive assessment involving history, examination, reviewing radiology and perform in-rooms scanning if required.
At the end of this time a detailed letter will be formulated and sent to your usual GP and/or referring health provider so that everyone is up to date with the plan.
After the initial consultation your doctor should be able to guide you with what to expect for subsequent appointments.

It is important to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing, especially in the area of concern if possible. For example, if you have a knee issue and come in wearing tight jeans, the jeans may need to be removed for a proper assessment or treatment. However, if you wear shorts or loose pants that can be lifted above the knee, it makes assessment and treatment to the area much easier. If this is not possible, that is ok, we will take every precaution to keep you comfortable, but it can make the process a lot easier.

We usually do not perform a treatment at the first appointment.
For most new patients we prefer to spend the full hour extensively assessing the patient and creating a tailored treatment plan, all of which takes significant time.
For any given issue there are usually multiple potential treatment options so it is best to discuss this in detail with the patient at the initial appointment. Depending on the patient’s particular issue and preferences for treatment, we can tailor a plan suited to them. At this time we can also review things like costs, what’s involved with the treatment (e.g. do they need someone with them), expectations for treatment effect.
Some patients also prefer to have time to think about their options before making a decision. By having some familiarity with the treatment information on the website this can help with this discussion but is not required.
Occasionally there can be an exception to the rule where a patient presents with an issue that does not take significant time to assess and discuss treatment. If time allows and there is no other reason not to proceed (such as needing a driver) then it is occasionally possible. Having a referral prior to the appointment can help with this. If treatment is desired at the first appointment this can be run by the doctor prior to the appointment and planned if appropriate. However, this would be an exception to the rule and its best to expect no treatment at the first appointment.

It is not necessary to have anyone with you for the appointment.
However, it can be useful as sometimes there can be an overwhelming amount of information provided at the appointment so sometimes having 2 sets of ears can also be helpful to remember the details. We also have access to patient information sheets you can take home to digest the information in your own time.
Whenever having an injection treatment it is always best and safest to have a driver with you, especially at the first treatment. Sometimes if patients have multiple treatments they get to know how it affects them and if they are safe to drive themselves they do. But it is always better to have someone with you if possible.

At Nexus Pain Management we are passionate about providing a quality service for our patients. We routinely send post-appointment questionnaires to gauge patient satisfaction and allow complaint reporting and resolution. Any complaints will be dealt with confidentially. We have a routine process at the clinic at our regular staff meetings to review any complaints (no matter how trivial they seem) and discuss ways that in future we can change things to prevent that issue happening again.

Unfortunately, we do have to charge a $200 cancellation fee for any cancellation fee within 48 hours of your appointment without adequate cause. Adequate causes include medical illness or exceptional circumstances (e.g. extreme weather events). We may need a medical certificate to confirm medical illness.
If a cancellation fee is owed, a new appointment cannot be booked until the fee has been paid.
This is an unfortunate consequence of the financial implications of running our business. Because we endeavor to keep our fees as low as possible to deliver this level of service, if an appointment cannot be filled due to a late cancellation the financial implications are that either all fees need to be increased significantly, or the business is not financially viable to continue.
We hope you understand.

The best way to repay us is with a 5-star Google review. This is the best way to share with others your positive experience and allow them to find us.
As we all know, there are too many people out there with pain issues that don’t know where to turn.
